Everything has consciousness

Developed in the 16th Century by Philosopher Francesco Patrizi, the idea that everything in the universe is conscious, or has an aspect of consciousness, is known as Panpsychism.

This philosophical enquiry was further developed in the 17th Century by German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, clarifying that the world is composed of atoms which hold a psyche.

The theory that trees and other plants are sentient, is becoming more widely accepted, with further research being conducted still today. Alfred North Whitehead theorised that each entity is capable of thoughts, feelings or emotions.

Panpsychism offers a unique philosophical perspective that connects the physical and the metaphysical world.

Panpsychism opens a world of possibilities about the nature of reality and the position of mankind within the cosmos. This philosophy identifies that everything in the universe has consciousness, and consciousness is a basic characteristic of everything in the physical universe, from Quarks and Qaisers to stars and planets.

Consciousness can be viewed as an intrinsic feature of all matter, just as mass and energy are part of all matter. These ideas may seem far fetched to some, but quite basic and fundamental to others.

This philosophical idea also explains gradual evolution and the logical continuity of the developments and changes within the natural world.

Consciousness is not limited to humans; all matter contains consciousness on one level or another. The differentiating aspect of intimate objects and humans is their will or intentions, and interactions with their environment.

The implications of this idea could radically change how we should interact with our own environment, increasing our consideration for what once was thought of as lifeless or not conscious.
